'Exploring human mobility and interactions through Ice Age art (19,000 - 14,000 cal. BP)'

'Abstract: Exploring human mobility and interactions through Ice Age art (19,000 - 14,000 cal. BP)
The mobility and social geography of past hunter-gatherer societies can be inferred from several lines of evidence, such as the origin of lithic raw materials and shells, a range of marine evidence, tool styles and technologies, as well as artistic features. This presentation will focus on the last part of the Ice Age and highlight how portable art provides a unique perspective on the cultural areas, long-distance connections, and local traditions of the human groups who inhabited Europe from 19,000 to 14,000 years cal. BP.

Bio:
I am a specialist of Palaeolithic art and bone industry. After completing a PhD at the University of La Sorbonne, I notably got a post-doctoral contract at the Natural History Museum of London, where I studied the collections from Gough's Cave. Much more material is available from French sites, which I keep investigating thanks to my current work as Project curator at the British Museum and my affiliation to the CNRS team Technologie et Ethnologie des Mondes Prehistoriques.
